Beyonce Knowles’ whole family used to help her fasten her clothes because she was so fat.
Despite now being regarded as one of the world’s most beautiful women, the 'Bootylicious’ singer has revealed she was a 'chubby and ugly' child who struggled to fit into her trousers.
She said: 'Of course I’ve had an ugly period. When I was around 10 or 11, my mother gave me this really ugly haircut and I was really, really chubby. So chubby that my family used to all lay me down flat so they could zip up my jeans. It took four of them and I would lie there on the bed while they all got to it.'
Beyonce – who is married to rapper Jay-Z - was just 15 when she found fame with her group Destiny’s Child and admits she sometimes regrets not having normal teenage experiences.
The 27-year-old star added to Britain’s Glamour magazine: 'There were certain moments when I was 18 and would look out of the window and see girls going to parties with their boyfriends and think, 'How am I ever going to meet anybody?’ I couldn’t just go on a date and nobody was going to ask me out. 'I was working too hard and not exposed to people my own age so I didn’t know how I was going to meet them.'

Britney Spears is demanding a hotel room which has never been smoked in for her UK visit.
The 'Womanizer' singer has reportedly made several requests to London's Dorchester hotel where she will stay in June when her tour comes to England, including humidifiers in every room, Marilyn Monroe DVDs and 100 watt light bulbs.
Britney has also asked for fresh flowers which she will arrange herself, celebrity magazines and women's novels.
A source told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "Britney may only be staying in the city for two weeks but she knows exactly what she wants.
"She'll be bringing all her own pillows for ultra comfort and her security will sleep outside her suite every night." Britney has requested tickets for West End theatre productions, as well as a place to horse ride and a map of running routes around the nearby Hyde Park.
She is believed to be planning to charter a plane to fly her to her other UK date which is 200 miles away.
The source added: "Britney is also hoping to make a private visit to Kensington Palace. She has decided she will travel by private plane to Manchester - then fly straight back to London."
'The Circus Starring Britney Spears' will appear at London's O2 arena for eight shows between June 3 and 14. The 27-year-old star is due to perform at the Manchester Evening News arena on June 17 before the tour moves to Ireland and then France.

Enrique Iglesias says he's the "opposite of a playboy".
The 'Hero' singer insists he isn't like his legendary lothario father Julio Iglesias - who claims he has slept with over 3,000 women - and found it hard to meet girls before he became a singer.
He told Britain's Daily Mail newspaper: "It was crazy what a hit could do. But I do hide behind my clothes a bit. I am the opposite of a playboy.
"I couldn't even pick up girls until I had a hit song. When that happened, in a club in Argentina, I ran my five best friends and said, 'Get down here, we are all going to get laid.' "
The 33-year-old Spanish singer - who is in a relationship with tennis player Anna Kournikova - also said his decision to pursue a music career at 19 sparked trouble with his father, who is also a successful singer.
He added: "When I signed a contract with a Mexican company, I was really afraid. My parents found out and my dad and I fought. It was a huge row.
"I wanted to go where I knew no one. I went to Toronto so I could concentrate on my music. It was a big fight to become my own person."
Enrique is currently touring the UK until May 15. He will then perform in mainland Europe.

Michael Jackson has dropped David Copperfield from his residency because the illusionist was too expensive.
The 'Thriller' singer has now reportedly hired US magician Criss Angel to join him at London's O2 arena after falling out with David, who had demanded a staggering $1 million per show.
A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Michael wants to use lots of illusions to ensure his shows are as explosive and entertaining as possible.
"He was so excited about working with David but fell out with him over the money he wanted.
"But Criss is a superb entertainer and Michael's delighted to have him on board - not least because he costs less." Although Michael is determined to put on the best show possible when he makes his live return in July to perform his 50-date 'This Is It' residency, doctors are said to have warned him he is "too frail" and underweight. A source said: "There are concerns Michael is too frail. He has been ordered to eat more but he refuses to and eats like a bird." However, concert promoter AEG Live insist the 50-year-old star is "extremely fit" and looking forward to taking to the stage. Michael has spent the past two months in Los Angeles rehearsing for his series of shows, which are rumoured to include live animals, a duet with his 12-year-old son Prince and performances from stars including Britney Spears and Leona Lewis. via music-news.com |
